Bill to Abolish Abortion Filed in Iowa
DES MOINES, IOWA — Iowa State Representative Zach Dieken introduced House File 2316, which would abolish abortion in Iowa and establish equal protection of the laws for preborn babies.
House File 2316 would recognize that “innocent human life, created in the image of God, should be equally protected under the law from fertilization to natural death.” The legislation would protect preborn babies with “the same criminal and civil laws protecting all other persons.”
Under the legislation, the existing homicide, assault, and wrongful death laws in Iowa would indeed protect the lives of preborn babies, ensuring that murdering anyone is illegal for everyone.
Pro-Life regulations in Iowa contain loopholes that grant complete immunity to women who willfully murder their preborn babies. House File 2316 would close such loopholes, countering the nationwide rise in abortion pills and other methods of self-induced abortion.
Iowa Republicans have nearly complete control of the state government and supermajorities in both chambers of the Iowa General Assembly. There is no excuse to avoid passing legislation that would finally treat abortion as murder.
