Representative Ernie Yarbrough Files Bill to Abolish Abortion in Alabama

Rep. Ernie Yarbrough filed HB 518 to abolish abortion in Alabama!

MONTGOMERY, AL — State Representative Ernie Yarbrough officially filed HB 518, the Alabama Prenatal Equal Protection Act, which would abolish abortion in Alabama by establishing equal protection for preborn children.

Representatives Mack Butler, Ritchie Whorton, Ben Harrison, Arnold Mooney, and Jim Carns co-sponsored the bill.

While Alabama’s current abortion law prohibits clinics and doctors from performing abortions starting at the moment of fertilization, it provides total legal immunity for mothers who murder their own preborn children. Each year, thousands of Alabama preborn babies are still being legally murdered by mothers who order abortion pills into the state and then take them at home.

The abortion genocide continues unabated in Alabama. According to conservative estimates, in 2024, about 6,960 Alabama women traveled to clinics outside of Alabama to abort their babies,[1] while at least 3,731 babies were still legally killed on Alabama soil by women who self-induced their own abortions using abortion pills procured through telehealth provision.[2] It is estimated that in spite of Alabama’s current Human Life Protection Act, well over 10,000 Alabama babies were murdered in 2024.

HB 518 has been assigned to the Health Committee, chaired by State Representative Paul Lee, who holds the unilateral power to decide if the bill will receive a hearing.

Representative Yarbrough is on the political front lines of the war against abortion. If you live in Alabama, please contact your state legislators and ask them to support HB 518, the Alabama Prenatal Equal Protection Act.

The telehealth numbers in this chart are adjusted down from #WeCount totals to account for studies that indicate only 88% of mail order abortion pills are actually taken to complete an abortion. This count does not include any self-managed abortions still occurring in Alabama without the oversight of U.S. clinicians (e.g. Abortion pills sourced through community networks, international telehealth providers, or other online vendors).
