Ep. 425: A Conversation With “Abortion Abolitionist” Bradley Pierce

MINISTRY WATCH PODCAST with WARREN COLE SMITH

All is not well in the pro-life ecosystem.

There is much infighting and disagreement over priorities. Those who have placed their trust in politics have had to contend with the reality that the number of abortions in America have actually gone up since the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade. On the other hand, those who have ignored politics have had no part in the pro-life victories that we have seen in at least 14 states.

On today’s program I unpack some of these issues with someone who calls himself an “abortion abolitionist.” Bradley Pierce is a constitutional attorney who has drafted legislation in more than 30 states supporting self-defense and parental rights, as well as civil liberties and the right to life.”

Oklahoma Senators Challenge Claims of Zero Abortion, Cite Over 3,000 Self-Managed Cases Annually

HOODLINE - OKLAHOMA CITY

“Amid debates on abortion in Oklahoma, Sens. Dusty Deevers and Warren Hamilton criticized the notion of “zero” abortions, spotlighting an estimated 3,274 annual self-managed procedures in the state, according to a recent release from the Oklahoma State Senate. Their remarks come as a rebuttal to House Speaker Kyle Hilbert's statement that reported abortion numbers were at zero, a claim they vehemently dispute as false.”

Hamilton and Deevers Respond to Claims of ‘Zero’ Abortions, Highlight the Estimated 3,274 Annual Abortions in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA SENATE - PRESS RELEASE

“Sen. Dusty Deevers, R-Elgin, and Sen. Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, responded on Friday to comments made by Oklahoma House Speaker Kyle Hilbert regarding abortion legislation in the upcoming session. Hilbert is quoted by Oklahoma Voice as saying, “When there’s not any reported abortions, I don’t know how you further reduce from zero.”

“As a pastor and local activist, I have been engaged in the fight to protect preborn children for years prior to becoming a Senator. I have much respect for Speaker Hilbert as Christian man, but as much as I desperately wish there were zero abortions in Oklahoma, zero ‘reported’ abortions is not the same thing as zero abortions,” Deevers said. “Data shows that roughly 3,274 self-managed abortions are legally performed annually in Oklahoma in addition to 4,000 abortions committed by Oklahomans driving to other states.”

SC GOP Reintroduces Bill to Punish People Getting Abortions With Death Penalty

TRUTHOUT

The South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act, which was introduced originally in 2023 but dropped from consideration in early 2024, has been refiled by State Rep. Rob Harris (R). The bill has seven other Republican co-sponsors, and is set to be considered by the state House Judiciary Committee early next year.

The bill defines fetuses and embryos at any stage of pregnancy as legal persons, thus defining any type of abortion — including those that happen before the state’s six-week abortion ban — as homicide, effectively creating a total abortion ban.

Missouri Republican proposes bill to enable murder charges for getting an abortion

THE KANSAS CITY STAR

“A Missouri Republican has offered legislation that would allow for women to be charged with murder if they get an abortion in the state. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Mike Moon, an Ash Grove Republican, would give fetuses the same rights as human beings, which would allow for criminal charges to be filed against anyone who gets an abortion, helps someone get an abortion or provides abortion care.”

Anti-Abortion Movement Faces Divisions in Post-Roe Politics

“We already have laws on the books that prohibit homicide. The abortion exceptions to those laws should be repealed, so that no one can take a life,” said Bradley Pierce, head of Foundation to Abolish Abortion, based in Liberty Hill, Texas. Pierce is an attorney who helped author an amicus brief to the Supreme Court abortion case that was just decided.
“If abortion should be illegal for [anyone], it should be illegal for everyone,” Pierce said.
