Representatives Dean and Newman File Bill to Abolish Abortion in Ohio
COLUMBUS, OH — Today, Ohio State Representatives Levi Dean and Johnathan Newman filed House Bill 370, the Ohio Prenatal Equal Protection Act, which would abolish abortion in Ohio by establishing equal protection of the laws for preborn babies.

Issue 1 denies preborn babies equal protection and should be treated as null and void.
In the fall of 2023, voters in Ohio cast their ballots to pass Issue 1, adding language saying that “every individual has a right to make and carry out one's own reproductive decisions” into the Ohio Constitution, including through abortion, contraception, and fertility measures.[1]
The abortion amendment in the Ohio Constitution is null and void because it contradicts the U.S. Constitution, which says in the Fourteenth Amendment that no state may deny to any person the equal protection of the laws.[2]
The amendment, most importantly, contradicts the Law of God, which makes clear that we shall not murder.[3] That includes the murder of image-bearers of God who have not yet been born.[4]
Ohio officials not only have the right, but the duty before God, to pass HB 370, the Ohio Prenatal Equal Protection Act despite the abortion language in the Ohio Constitution. They swore oaths to “support the Constitution of the United States.”[5]
There were over 22,000 babies in Ohio murdered through clinic-based abortions in 2023, with at least 45% of those abortions taking place through non-surgical methods such as abortion pills.[6] Ohio women are increasingly seeking medication abortions instead of surgical procedures. This means merely banning abortion clinics and doctors from providing abortions while keeping self-induced abortion legal for women will not abolish abortion in Ohio. The act of prenatal homicide must be criminalized for all parties involved.
