Rep. Lori VanWinkle Files Bill to Abolish Abortion in North Dakota
BISMARCK, ND — Today, State Representative Lori VanWinkle filed HB 1373, the North Dakota Prenatal Equal Protection Act, which would abolish abortion in North Dakota by establishing equal protection for preborn children.
HB 1373 is co-sponsored by State Representatives Matt Heilman, Donna Henderson, Dan Johnston, Jeff Hoverson, Desiree Morton, Doug Osowski, Nico Rios, and Christina Wolff. Senators Jose Castaneda, David Clemens and Desiree Van Oosting also co-sponsored the bill.
Current North Dakota law denies preborn children the equal protection of the laws by:
Allowing babies conceived in rape and incest to be aborted
Allowing self-managed abortions throughout all nine months of pregnancy
North Dakota’s current abortion law, which prohibits abortionists from performing most abortions in the state, is being blocked by an activist judge, while the State Supreme Court has yet to weigh in. However, the fact that the state is not enforcing the abortion law at the moment has made little difference, since the state’s laws provide explicit legal immunity to mothers who choose to murder their own babies, thus, keeping abortion legal in North Dakota.
Because of this, the abortion genocide continues in North Dakota. In 2023, about 780 North Dakota babies were aborted in clinics outside of North Dakota,[1] with an additional estimated 221 babies killed on North Dakota soil in self-managed abortions by mothers.[2] Therefore, in 2023, over 1,000 North Dakota babies were murdered by abortion, representing a roughly 2% increase year over year from 2021.
“Every preborn baby is created in the holy Image of God. Therefore, these babies deserve to be equally protected by laws that reflect their dignity and worth as human beings” said State Representative Lori VanWinkle.
Representative VanWinkle is on the political front lines of the war against abortion. If you live in North Dakota, please contact your state legislators and ask them to co-author HB 1373, the North Dakota Prenatal Equal Protection Act.
